A report from the Associated Press said the jury deliberated for just a few hours before returning the verdict finding the former president liable of sexually abusing Ms. Carroll. Jurors rejected Carroll’s claims of rape, but agreed that Trump was responsible for sexual abuse. Jurors also found Trump guilty of defaming Carroll.

Trump did not attend the proceedings, but did comment on the verdict via social media. He once again claimed that he does not know Ms. Carroll. He also called the verdict “a disgrace” and “a continuation of the greatest witch hunt of all time.”

Carroll had sought an “unspecified” amount in damages, leaving the decision up to the judge and jury. Trump was ordered to pay E. Jean Carroll a total of $5 million for the two counts he was found liable for.
