A 23-year old man was reportedly shot and killed in the Powelton section of the city early this morning. A 6 ABC Action News report said the incident happened near Drexel University, in the area of North 35th Street by West Hamilton Street at around 12:30 a.m. on Thursday morning.
First arriving police officers at the scene reported finding a man lying on the sidewalk when they arrived. The victim had been shot at least once. He was rushed to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead a short time later.
The shooting happened near Drexel University’s campus. Police said the victim was not a student, and his last known address was not located in the city. A stray bullet also went through the window of a first-floor apartment, where two adults were inside sleeping at the time of the shooting. Neither person was injured.
Police did not know of a motive for the shooting as far. No suspects were named and no arrests have been made at this time.
