PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA

A teenager was rushed to the hospital after she was shot while playing basketball at a playground’s basketball courts, Tuesday night in the city’s Tioga-Nicetown section. 6 ABC Action News, reported that the shooting happened shortly before 9pm on the 1900 block of Ontario Street. The Jerome Brown Playground.

Investigators say the teen was lying face down and unresponsive when officers arrived at the scene. The teenager was found on the basketball court, under the net. She had been shot twice in the head. She was taken to a hospital where she was listed in “extremely critical” condition.

According to Philadelphia Police Chief Inspector, Scott Small, there were at least 10 young adults on the basketball court when the gunfire erupted.

“The entire incident was captured on cameras that are at the playground, and it’s very tragic. It shows this 15-year old female actively playing basketball, when she suddenly collapses when she gets shot.”

Small said. Police said the 15-year old girl frequents the playground, and is well known to the staff. Small said the girl lives about a block and a half from the playground where she was shot.
