PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA

Philadelphia police say a man was shot and wounded shortly after 1am on Broad & Chestnut Streets. The victim was a passenger on a SEPTA bus at the time of the shooting. Passengers dashed for the back door, and a quick exit when the shooting started. The shooter allegedly made his escape by blending in with the passengers on the bus who were fleeing the scene.

6ABC Action News reported that the bus driver opened the back door as soon as he heard the shooting. That’s when the passengers fled out the back door. The driver and wounded passenger were the only passengers left on the bus after the shooting. The police report said the driver reported that the victim was slipping in and out of conciousness as he lay on the floor of the bus bleeding. The unidentified man was rushed to Jefferson University Hospital in critical condition. The victim was shot in the left side of his chest.

“We know the shooting happened on the bus, inside the bus. We found one spent shell casing on the floor in the rear of the bus. We’re pretty positive that the SEPTA bus cameras recorded the incident. We’re also pretty confident there’s going to be exterior cameras on businesses that may have caught the shooter fleeing the bus.”

said Philadelphia Chief Inspector Scott Small.
