DECATAUR, ILLINOIS

Police In Decataur, ILL. say one of their officers were sitting in his patrol car on Friday night around 10pm, when someone drove up and open-fired on him. The officer was reportedly parked in a church and finishing up some “paperwork” when he was ambushed.

The officer was not hit or injured by the gunfire. WHIO Dayton 7 (https://www.whio.com/),reported that the cop immediately pursued the suspect. The officer was soon joined by other cops as they pursued the suspect, 29-year old, Marcus Boykin. Police said Boykin pointed his weapon at them as they pursued him. An officer fired at Boykin, but did not hit him.

Boykin was arrested and charged with attempted murder of a police officer, aggravated assault of a police officer, possession of a weapon by a convicted felon, aggravated fleeing and eluding police, and aggravated driving under the influence, according to court documents. The officer who took a shot at Boykin was placed on administrative leave. Decatar Police said this is department policy.
