Today is a very sad day in hip-hop. It’s an especially sad one for me, because DMX was a special type of talent to me, since before he dropped his first full album. I’m going back to 97′ when Jay-Z wasn’t the only rapper in the running to be crowned the “New King Of New York”, after Biggie Smalls’ untimely death in March of the same year. It was a different time. One of those you had to be there times. Jay-Z was the shit in 97, 98, and 99′. But Jay-Z was never crowned the “undisputed” best rapper in those years. Too much competition, and very good rappers in the running including, DMX, Nas, Camron, Capone N Nore, Mobb Deep, Big Pun, Lil’ Kim..just to name a few. The list of dope ass NY rappers seemed to go on and on forever in 97. Like myself, most people were leaning more towards X being the best rapper from New York (or anywhere else) to ever bless a microphone. But,if you’re currently in your 20’s, or even maybe 30’s, and if you listen to these nut-ass radio and media people, this is a FACT you’re probably not even aware of.

USA today (@usatoday) reported, rap legend Earl Simmons A.K.A – DMX, passed away on Friday. He was 50-years old. The statement on DMX’s passing on Friday was released by the family. Over the past few days there has been some confusion about DMX’s condition, after someone falsely reported his passing on Wednesday, or Thursday via social media. DMX was rushed to a hospital in White Plains, NY on April 2 after suffering a heart attack. There has not been many details released to the public, other than what you just read at this moment.

R.I.P to the ICON DMX
