Even though Rockets star guard James Harden and Milwaukee Bucks All-Star forward Giannis (Let’s just call him by his first name to save time), are in different conferences, and only play against each other two times a year, the basketball world seems to believe that the two have a rivalry? Or is it a personal grudge against one another? I don’t know, but whatever it is, it seems to have the basketball world up in arms…..so, I wrote about it.
According to NBA insiders, it all started when Giannis took a playful jab at Harden on Feb. 6th, while he and Lebron James were picking their teams for the All-Star game. When asked why he picked Kemba Walker over James Harden, Giannis joked that he wanted a teammate who would pass the ball. Giannis took another shot at Harden after the game saying the team was targeting Harden on the defensive end down the stretch. Harden fired some shots back at Giannis in an interview he did with ESPN’s Rachel Nichols that was released today
“I average more assist than him (Kemba Walker), I think. I don’t see what the joke is. I wish I could just run and be 7 feet and just dunk. Like that takes no skill at all. I gotta actually learn how to play basketball, how to have skill. I take that any day.”
All of the back and forth shots are cool and all, but the only way we’re going to find out who can put their money where their mouth is, is if the two teams meet in the NBA Finals in June. The Rockets will have a much tougher path to the Finals than the Bucks who are running away with the Eastern Conference at the moment and look like a lock to be the Eastern Conference representative in this years NBA Finals. The Rockets will have to deal with the likes of the LA teams (Lakers and Clippers) if they hope to see the Finals this year. Personally, I don’t think the Rockets have enough manpower to beat either one in a 7-game series.
