33-year old, Javier Rivera, was arrested early this morning and charged with murder, after a violent confrontation with a car owner during an attempted car theft.

A report from 6-ABC Action News said the incident began on Sunday evening when Rivera allegedly tried to steal a BMW from a driveway in Kennett Township.

The 69-year old homeowner confronted Rivera during the attempted theft. A chase ensued up the driveway at which point Rivera stabbed the victim in the torso and neck. The unidentified homeowner was pronounced dead at the scene.

Rivera fled the scene on foot before stealing a car. He crashed that car into a grey Honda. When the driver of the Honda got out of the car to exchange information, Rivera stole the Honda.

Rivera was arrested early this morning and charged with first-degree murder and multiple other charges related to the crime. Rivera also broke into a home in West Chester on the same night of the murder. Rivera is being held at Chester County Prison with no bail.
