A Philadelphia School Safety Officer was reportedly shot and critically wounded during a road rage incident in Center City early this morning.

A report from 6-ABC Action News said the shooting happened on the 300 block of Columbus Boulevard at around 1:45 a.m. on Monday morning.
The Safety Officer was flagged down by two victims who said they had just been the victims of a road rage incident on I-95. They told the officer that someone in a white Hyundai pulled a gun on them.
“At that point, the officer attempted to either investigate or intervene in some way when the occupant of the Hyundai opened fire on that officer”, said Philadelphia Police Detective, D.F. Pace.
First arriving police officers at the scene found the 68-year old safety officer inside his school safety SUV, suffering from gunshot wounds to the face and arm. The officer managed to drive a short distance before crashing into a tree in front of Dave & Busters on Columbus Boulevard. The safety officer was rushed to a nearby hospital where he was last reported to be in critical condition.
Police said they have a vague description of the suspect but did not release any further information.
