A report from 6-ABC Action News said the incident happened at Reservoir Drive & Diamond Street at around 2:00 a.m. on Tuesday morning.
Police inspectors reported finding a severely damaged wheel chair at the scene. Police are unsure if the victim was in the wheelchair or pushing it when they were struck by the hit & run driver. Witnesses said the victim was alive when they saw her lying in the road, but by the time police and first responders arrived she was deceased. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
“We know this female was hit with such force she was launched out of one of her boots that she was wearing, because one is on the highway. And 100 feet away she’s lying with another boot on. We’re hoping our real-time cameras either recorded the vehicle prior to our after striking this female. We do know at least two people pulled up after the accident and she was semi-conscious”, said Philadelphia Police Chief Inspector, Scott Small.
Police believe the vehicle in question was silver based on evidence left at the scene. Police also aren’t sure which way the vehicle fled after the crash. No suspects were named and no arrests have been made at this time.
