A report from 6-ABC Action News said the shooting happened at Joppatown High School in Joppa, Maryland on Friday.
The shooting reportedly came after an altercation between the two students. The 15-year old, identified as Warren Curtis Grant, was airlifted to a trauma center where he was pronounced dead shortly after arriving. The 16-year old suspect, who has not yet been identified, fled the scene after the shooting. He was apprehended within minutes, police said.
Police said the suspect was known to law enforcement and police had responded to prior calls involving the 16-year old.
“We’ve had more than 10 incidents since 2022 where this suspect was either the victim, witness or suspect in an incident handled by the sheriff’s office”, said Harford County Sheriff, Jeff Gahler.
Police said the day of the shooting was the suspect’s first day at the school and only the 4th day of the new school year.
