A mother and her 10-year old child were reportedly killed and 6 other people were injured when a driver fled a traffic stop, ran thru a red light, and slammed into the family’ minivan in New Castle, Delaware on Wednesday night.

A report from 6-ABC Action News said the incident happened at the intersection of Airport & Christiana Roads at around 11:20 p.m. on Wednesday night.

Police reported pulling over a 2022 Kia K5 on the 100 block of South Dupont Highway at around 11:08 p.m. Police said the driver fled the traffic stop shortly after being pulled over, police did not pursue the fleeing vehicle.

Twelve minutes later the speeding Kia slammed head on into a 2008 Dodge Grand Caravan as it was turning onto Airport Road. The impact caused the minivan to flip over several times. The Kia then crossed over the cement median and slammed into a Hyundai Tucson as it prepared to make a turn in front of a nearby gas station.

29-year old, Karisma Stevens, and her 10-year old daughter, Zamiyah, were both pronounced dead at the scene. Four of Stevens’ other children who were also in the minivan were also injured. One of the children was rushed to a nearby hospital and was last reported to be in critical condition. The driver of the Kia was rushed to a nearby hospital with serious injuries. The driver of the Hyundai was also rushed to a nearby hospital with serious injuries.

The report did not mention any arrests at the time.
