29-year old, Dashawn Watkins, of Western Pennsylvania, is facing murder charges in connection with the death of 14-year old, Pauly Likens, a transgender teen, who Watkins has been accused of murdering and dismembering.
A report from 6-ABC Action News said on June 25th, Sharon Hill Police received a report that Likens had been missing since the 22nd of June. On the same day, the Hermitage Police Department were dispatched to a nearby lake. There they found dismembered human remains in and around the water. More remains determined to belong to Likens were discovered in the area surrounding the Shenango River over the following week.
Surveillance footage, social media and cell phone records show that Likens “appeared to be on the phone and waiting to meet someone near the canoe launch area”, according to police. Footage is also said to show Watkins making several trips out of his apartment carrying multiple bags, and driving to his apartment near the scene of the crime. Police said multiple locations inside of Watkins’ apartment tested positive in a preliminary blood test.
An autopsy revealed that the cause of death was ruled to be sharp force trauma to the head, ruling Likens’ death a homicide. Watkins has been charged with 1st degree murder, aggravated assault, evidence tampering, and abuse of a corpse. Watkins was denied bail. His preliminary hearing is scheduled for July 17th.
