20-year old, Destry Jones and 18-year old, Damien Hinson, both from Dover, Delaware, have been charged in connection to the shooting death of 18-year old Camay De Silva while she was visiting Delaware State University’s campus last month.

A report from 6-ABC Action News said the shooting happened on Delaware State University’s campus at around 1:40 a.m. on April 21, 2024.
Dover police made the announcement of the arrests of the pair on Monday morning. Both have been charged with murder in the death of De Silva. Police also announced that both men have also been charged with the attempted murder of a 20 and 21-year old man during a fight shortly before shots were fired. Police said De Silva was not a participant in the fight or the intended target.
“They took someone who had nothing to do with what was going on with them. And their senseless choices affected a whole lot of people.”
“I hope you can live with what you did and that guilt eats you up” De Silva’s mother, Shanelle De Silva said during an interview.”

18-year old, Camay De Silva, graduated high school with honors in 2023. She attended Morgan State University until a mass shooting at the school last October made her want to attend a school closer to home. She was a computer science major at Delaware Technical Community College, and was in the process of transferring to Delaware State, Shanelle De Silva told 6-ABC Action News.
