Legal tint in Pennsylvania is considered window tint rated at 70% visible light transmittance on the side and rear windshield of a vehicle. Anything darker is considered illegal in Philly. This was something that might get you a ticket if you get pulled over….or was likely the reason you got pulled over in the first place. Coming July 1st, you might also get a $100 ticket slapped on your illegally tinted parked car.

A report from 6-ABC Action News said Northeast Philadelphia, Councilman, Mike Driscoll, proudly co-sponsored the bill that was signed into law by Mayor, Cherelle Parker, and will officially go into effect on July 1, 2024.

Driscoll said the law will cut down on police officers having to pull over cars with illegally tinted windows.

“We’re not trying to be punitive. We’re just trying to let folks know this is the sort of situation we don’t want to put law enforcement in”, said Councilman, Mike Driscoll.

By July 1st Philadelphia Police officers and The Philadelphia Parking Authority will have the power to issue these $100 tickets.
