A 46-year old man was reportedly killed after being struck by a hit and run driver, who briefly stopped at the scene, but quickly took off afterwards.

A report from NBC-10 Philly said the incident happened as the victim was crossing Ogontz Avenue near Cheltenham Avenue at around 11 p.m. on Tuesday night.

According to police, the victim was struck in the crosswalk by a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed. First responding police and paramedics reported finding the victim suffering from “severe head trauma”. He was pronounced deceased at the scene. Police said the driver initially stopped, but then fled the scene afterward.

“He was hit with such force he was knocked out of his footwear. The driver got out of the car, looked back at the victim then got back in the car and left the scene”, said Philadelphia Police Chief Inspector, Scott Small.

Small also said the victim was dragged about 30 or 40 feet before the driver stopped. Police said they are searching for a silver or dark colored Ford sedan that likely has moderate to heavy damage to its hood and windshield.
