45-year old Jennifer Crumbley was reportedly convicted of involuntary manslaughter by a jury in a “first of its kind” case in Pontiac, Michigan this afternoon. Jennifer Crumbley is the mother of Ethan Crumbley who was 15-years old when he shot 10 people at Oxford High School in November of 2021, leaving four students dead.

A report from the Associated Press said the jury deliberated for over 10 hours before finding Crumbley guilty of four counts of manslaughter in connection to the shooting on Tuesday afternoon. One for each victim.
Jennifer and her husband James Crumbley were both charged in connection with a mass shooting their child committed. James Crumbley’s trial starts in March. Ethan Crumbley was sentenced to life in prison in December of 2023, after pleading guilty to 24-charges, including first degree premeditated murder.
James and Jennifer Crumbley were charged for buying their son the gun he used in the attack, and failing to respond to warning signs exhibited by the shooter prior to the attack. The school called Ethan’s parents to the school on the day of the shooting after finding violent drawings done by Ethan during a school assignment. He was also caught searching for bullets at school, shooting videos in class, and drawing violent images on several other papers. School officials said the parents did not take Ethan home and get him immediate help, like they’d suggested and requested. Officials also offered the parents a list of facilities that provided same-day mental health care services, according to school officials.
School officials told the parents they didn’t think Ethan should be alone, as the signs showed that he may have been considering suicide. The parents decided to send Ethan back to class, where Ethan went on to shoot 10 people, killing four students on the same day.
At trial, Jennifer Crumbley’s lawyer, Shannon Smith, argued that the school had been “nonchalant” during the meeting, and they did not insist that the parents’ take Ethan home. Jennifer Crumbley’s sentencing date is scheduled for April 9th.
