22-year old, Zacharie Scott, a United States resident who resides in Guyana, was arrested at John F. Kennedy International Airport while attempting to smuggle cocaine inside of bags of Jumbo shrimp.

A report from ABC-7 New York said Scott was arrested while going through customs at JFK, after arriving in New York on an American Airlines flight coming from Guyana on Friday.
According to authorities, two of Scott’s suitcases were selected for a second screening during the screening process. That was when Custom & Border Protection Officers discovered loose clothing and multiple packages of jumbo shrimp wrapped in sealed plastic. Investigators cut the plastic bags open and saw a white powdery substance shaped into bricks.
The white substance tested positive for cocaine. Scott was reportedly found to be in possession of a total of 40 pounds of cocaine. Scott told investigators he was to be paid $5000 or $6000 to smuggle the cocaine into the United States.
Scott is currently being detained until his preliminary hearing, which is scheduled for Tuesday 1/23/2024. Scott faces a maximum penalty of 20-years in prison if convicted on the charges.
