Rhamique Topping (no age given) has been charged in the accidental shooting of his 5-year old godson in Kensington yesterday, after the child was able to access and fire an unsecured gun inside of the home.

A report from 6-ABC Action News said the child shot himself in the legs twice inside of a residence on the 3500 block of Joyce Street at around 5 p.m. on Sunday evening.
Police said they received a call from St. Christopher’s Hospital, stating that a juvenile had been brought into the hospital with gunshot wounds. Police arrived at the hospital to find that the child had been shot twice in the legs. A preliminary investigation led police to believe that the child had shot himself with an unattended gun.
A firearm that was registered to Topping was found at the scene. Topping has been charged with endangering the welfare of a child and reckless endangering of another person. The DA’s Office has also approved charges against the child’s mother that include endangering the welfare of a child, obstructing justice, and filing false reports.
The child was last reported to be in stable condition.
