An Indianapolis homeowner managed to fight off an intruder in his home, take the suspects’ gun from him, and have a shootout with the suspect’s accomplices outside of the home, leaving one of the suspects dead at the end of the insane incident.

A report from the New York Post said the incident began inside of the home of Indianapolis homeowner, Brent Smith, at around 7 p.m. on Tuesday evening.
Smith told police that a masked man entered his home and smacked him in the head with his gun. Smith fought his attacker and the two men fell through Smith’s glass table as they tussled. Smith shot the intruder during the tussle. That was when Smith said he heard what sounded like “a thousand gunshots” coming from right outside his home. Smith said he grabbed his own gun and went to the door. Armed with his own gun and the gun he took from the suspect, Smith engaged in a shootout with the suspects outside. Smith’s home and car were both riddled with bullets during the shootout.
“When the gun went off I heard thousands of gunshots. It was a lot of gunfire man. A lot of gunfire”, Smith told Fox-59 during an interview.
Smith admitted to shooting the intruder with his own gun during the struggle inside the house. That suspect was identified as Damon Swanigan Jr., of Indianapolis. Smith was briefly questioned and released from police custody. He is not expected to face any charges in the incident.
