The city of Philadelphia has reached the 400 homicide mark for the 4th year in a row, with about a week left in 2023.

A report from Fox-29 Philly said data from the police department shows a total of 402 homicides in the city as of Thursday. One of the alarming statistics I took from the report, was the fact that less than half of those 402 homicides have been solved. Arrests related to the 402 homicides are also well under 50 percent.
Even as bad as the 402 homicides sound, the number is actually a 20% drop from the same time last year….which is at least a step in the right direction.
“We are currently experiencing what criminologist expect to be the biggest decrease in homicides since there was a recording of data about homicides”, said Philly D.A. Larry Krasner during a recent press conference.
