A student at Widener University was reportedly attacked by a suspect armed with a knife while walking their dog early this morning, causing the campus to go on lockdown for over an hour.

A report from CBS-3 Philly said the incident happened near 18th & Chestnut Streets at around 12:30 a.m. on Friday morning.
According to a statement released by Widener University: A student who lives off-campus was walking their dog in the area, when they got into an argument with another person who was also walking their dog. The argument escalated into a fight after the other person threw something at the student’s dog. They then attacked the student with a knife before fleeing the scene.
The student was taken to Crozer Medical Center where they were treated for a “superficial wound”. The student’s dog was not harmed during the incident. The campus was on lockdown for 90 minutes after the incident.
A description of the suspect was not made available. No arrests have been made at this time. An investigation is ongoing.
