Two Highway Patrol Officers were reportedly shot and injured during a shootout in Northeast Philadelphia last night that began when police attempted to pull over a truck that was reportedly involved in an earlier shooting.

A report from CBS-3 Philly said police were called to the area of Cottman Avenue & Roosevelt Boulevard at around 2 a.m. on Sunday morning for a report of gunshots heard nearby.
First arriving police officers at the scene reported that they located a truck matching the description of a vehicle that was possibly involved in the shooting. Police attempted to pull the truck over but the driver hit the gas and a chase began. The truck was pursued to Frankford Avenue & Welsh Road where two other officers joined the pursuit. The truck rammed one of the cop cars which brought the pursuit to an end. As the four officers exited their vehicles and approached the truck, the suspect began firing shots at them causing officers to return fire.
All four police officers returned fire. Two Highway Patrol Officers were shot. One officer was shot in the head. The other officer was shot in the face and leg. The officers were rushed to Jefferson Torresdale Hospital by police where both were last reported to be in stable condition. The suspect was also shot. He was rushed to an undisclosed hospital where he was last reported to be in critical condition.
No other injuries were reported and no other suspects were reported to be involved.
