An unarmed security guard was reportedly stabbed and killed during a double stabbing at the Macy’s in Center City this morning.

A report from Fox-29 Philly said the incident happened at the Macy’s store on 13th & Market Streets at around 11 a.m. on Monday morning.

According to police: the suspect was caught by security guards attempting to steal hats. The suspect reportedly handed over the stolen items after a brief argument with security. The suspect left the store afterward, but returned to the store 15 minutes later and attacked two security guards with a knife. Stabbing both guards.

An unidentified 30-year old security guard was stabbed in the neck. The guard was rushed to Jefferson University Hospital where they were pronounced dead shortly after arriving. A 23-year old security guard was reportedly treated for stab wounds to the face and arm.

The suspect fled the store after the stabbing. He was captured by SEPTA police a short while later at the Somerset El Station.
