A report from 6-ABC Action News said Gino, who was reportedly an inmate at nearby Riverside Correctional Facility, escaped as he was working in an orchid outside of the Philadelphia Industrial Correctional Center (P.I.C.C.) at around 11:45 a.m. on Thursday morning.

According to city officials: Gino was working in an orchid outside of P.I.C.C when he left without permission. Gino reportedly had one prison guard watching him, but he was working alone. Gino reportedly asked the officer to use the restroom and never returned. When the officer went to check the restroom at around 12:00 p.m., he realized Gino had fled.

Gino was reportedly serving a sentence for charges related to theft and burglary which made him eligible for outside work detail, according to a statement from the Mayor’s Office.

Prison official said Gino was set to be released to a court-ordered housing program today, but it was discovered that he had a bench warrant out of Bucks County for a retail theft, so he would have to remain in jail to answer to those charges. Officials believe that may have led to Gino escaping.
