Two armed robbers reportedly robbed a McDonald’s restaurant in the Tacony section of the city yesterday and forced the store’s manager to open the safe at gunpoint.

A report from 6-ABC Action News said the incident happened at the McDonald’s located on the 6400 block of Torresdale Avenue at around 2 a.m. on Sunday morning.

According to police: an employee taking a break outside of the restaurant was approached by two armed men as he smoked a cigarette behind the business. The two armed suspects then forced the employee to open the back door to the establishment using a code that was only known to employees. Once inside of the establishment, the robbers found the manager and forced him to open up the safe.

The suspects reportedly took around $2500 from the safe before fleeing the scene on foot down Torresdale Avenue. No suspects have been named and no arrests have been made at this time. An investigation is ongoing.
