With a final vote of 216 to 210, Rep. Matt Gaetz’s motion to vacate was passed, stripping now former Speaker Of The House, Kevin McCarthy of the title on Tuesday afternoon.

A report from 6-ABC Action News said Rep. Patrick McHenry (R-N.C.) was named interim Speaker Pro Tempore. Which means McHenry will lead the chamber until a new Speaker Of The House is elected sometime in the future.
Today’s vote marks the first time in U.S. history that a Speaker Of The House has been booted from the position. A dejected McCarthy shook his head as the presiding officer slammed the gavel after the historic vote. McCarthy exited the chamber declining to make a statement.
Eight Republicans voted to remove McCarthy from the position. Several members of the GOP leadership reportedly met in McCarthy’s office after the vote. Republicans are set to conduct a closed-door meeting on Tuesday evening.
