A man was reportedly shot and killed during an attempted carjacking in South Philadelphia last night.

A 6 ABC Action News report said the shooting happened at 12th & Porter Streets at around 10:45 p.m. on Wednesday night.
Investigators said the victim was shot when he intervened as a friend was being carjacked.
“It appears that the shooter or shooters were standing very, very close to this 50-year old victim when the shot was fired since the shell casing was just a few inches from his head”, said Police Chief Inspector, Scott Small.
Police said two male suspects approached the female driver as the car was idling. She was reportedly forced out of the car at gunpoint and ordered to give up the keys to her car. When her friend showed up and attempted to intervene, one of the suspects fired a shot. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
The suspects were alleged to have fled the scene in a small red SUV. No arrests have been made at this time. Police said the car that was being carjacked was registered to the victim, who was not driving the car at the time of the jacking.
