An armed carjacking in Northeast Philadelphia early this morning, reportedly ended with a crash and the stolen car bursting into flames with one suspect still inside of the car.

A 6 ABC Action News report said the incident began on the 2800 block of Shipley Road at around 3 a.m. on Tuesday morning.
Three males reported to be in their early 20’s, approached and carjacked a victim driving a 2015 Dodge Charger. The carjackers fled the scene in the Charger, which police had a description of in a matter of minutes. A police sergeant spotted a vehicle fitting the description on Castor Avenue, shortly after it was reported stolen and began following the vehicle. The stolen car then began running red lights and driving at a high rate of speed. Other patrol vehicles in the area joined in the pursuit. The stolen car struck the side of a Honda CRV that was going west on Levick Street shortly afterward.
“The stolen car hit the Honda CRV with such force that the right front tire of this Dodge Charger was completely ripped off the car and struck a parked car on Castor Avenue”, said Philadelphia Police Chief Inspector, Scott Small.
The stolen car hit a utility pole a block away and reportedly burst into flames. Two of the suspects jumped out of the vehicle and fled on foot. The third suspect remained unconscious in the front seat of the car.
The two suspects that fled the vehicle were captured around the corner from the crash site on the 1300 block of Sterling Street. The third suspect was rescued from the front seat by the sergeant that began as the first police vehicle in pursuit of the suspects. That suspect was rushed to a nearby hospital where he was last reported to be in critical condition. The other two suspects were also taken to the hospital to be treated for minor bumps and bruises before being booked.
A gun was recovered after one of the fleeing suspects tossed it during the foot pursuit. Two more guns and live ammunition were found inside of the stolen vehicle after the fire was extinguished.
