The United States Coast Guard said they are searching for five people aboard a missing submersible near the Titanic wreckage site in Newfoundland, Canada.

According to CNN, the five missing people included three paying passengers who paid from $250,000 per person for a seat aboard the submersible named “Titan” which is operated by OceanGate Expeditions, whose website says the tour experience is a way for a customer, “to step outside of everyday life and discover something truly extraordinary”.
The Coast Guard was first alerted to the missing submersible on Sunday. The missing submersible named Titan, reportedly lost contact with the crew of the Polar Prince (the vessel used to transport the Titan to the Titanic wreckage site), 1 hour and 45 minutes after its descent on Sunday morning. Multiple government agencies from around the world have been assisting in the search effort, but as of Tuesday morning, the submersible has not yet been found or surfaced.
According to OceanGate’s website, the submersible has a life support of 96-hours for a 5-person crew.
