A report from the New York Post said Banks was shot by Chavis who opened fire on a pastor and a funeral service business competitor who was with the pastor, over a reported business dispute at Washington National Cemetery during the burial for 10-year old, Arianna Davis. Chavis ended up shooting and killing Banks, who served as a pallbearer in Arianna’s funeral. Arianna’s cousin was also shot in the leg during the gunfire, according to the cousin’s mother.

Police investigators said during the funeral Chavis was seen arguing with a pastor and another man who was affiliated with Freeman Funeral Services, who is reported to be a long-time competitor of Chavis’s Serenity Funeral Home.

Once at the gravesite, Chavis reportedly confronted the pair again yelling “I’m here for all you bi*** a** nig***! Before pushing the pastor and telling him “This ain’t your f****** funeral home!”. Several mourners approached Chavis and confronted him about disrespecting the family. Chavis backed up before tripping over a concrete vault lid and falling to the ground. Chavis reportedly got up from the ground and opened fire, killing Banks and hitting the cousin of Arianna’s in the leg before fleeing the scene.

Chavis was pulled over and arrested a short time later. He was arrested and charged with 1st degree murder, 2nd degree murder, and attempted murder. A date for Chavis’s next court appearance was not reported.
