Eight people were reportedly killed and 7-more people were injured at a mall in Texas yesterday after a body armor wearing gunman open fired on shoppers and customers with an AR-15 style weapon last night.
A report from CNN said the mass shooting happened at the Allen Premium Outlets located at 820 Stacy Road in Allen, Texas on Saturday evening.
Authorities said they believed the gunman acted alone. He was reportedly confronted and killed by a police officer who was at the mall on an unrelated call when he heard the gunshots and responded.
“One of our officers was on an unrelated call at the outlet mall. He heard the gunshots, went to the gunshots, engaged the suspect, and neutralized the suspect”, said Allen Police Chief, Brian Harvey.
Witnesses interviewed by CNN said the suspect was dressed in all black, and wearing tactical gear. The body of the deceased gunman was reportedly laying next to an AR-15, and the suspect had multiple extra magazines attached to the chest gear of his tactical gear. The identity of the gunman has not been released to the public at this time.
According to statistics reported by CNN, there have been 199 mass shootings in which there were more than four people shot, excluding the gunman, just this year in the United States.
