TOW TRUCK DRIVER SHOT DURING ATTEMPTED ROBBERY IN SOUTHWEST PHILLY

A tow truck driver was reportedly shot during an attempted robbery in Southwest Philadelphia last night.

A 6 ABC Action News report said the incident happened on the 2100 block of S 72nd Street at around 11p.m. on Monday night.

According to investigators, the 40-year old male victim had just parked his car after leaving work, when four young males who were wearing dark clothes and brandishing guns, approached the tow truck driver. The suspects reportedly attempted to rob the victim, but the incident ended with four shots being fired, three of which hit the victim. The victim was shot in the arm, stomach, and leg. He was rushed to a nearby hospital where he was last reported to be in critical condition.

“After shooting the tow truck driver, the perpetrators then fled on foot northbound from the 2100 block on 72nd Street. Fortunately, we did find numerous private surveillance cameras, so hopefully these cameras recorded something”, said Philadelphia Police Chief Inspector, Scott Small.
