A man reported to be “in his 40’s” was shot and killed after a car accident in South Philadelphia this morning.

A 6 ABC Action News report said the incident happened in the area of the 2000 block of Mercy Street at around 10:55 a.m. on Monday morning.
Investigators said the incident began when two cars were involved in a minor traffic accident. One driver attempted to flee the scene and the other driver gave chase. Both cars ended up abandoned a short distance from the accident location, and a 40-year old man was left dead.
The alleged shooter remained at the scene until police arrived. He claimed self-defense, but still was taken into custody by police for questioning. The incident remains under investigation at this time.
