Investigators say officers were in the area conducting a drug investigation. A police officer from the New Castle County PD fired shots at a car in the 7-Eleven parking lot. An unidentified man and woman, both believed to be in their 20’s, were hit by gunfire.

The male was taken to Christiana Medical Center where he was pronounced dead shortly after arriving. The female was reportedly being treated for non life-threatening injuries.

The incident, captured on surveillance video, is said to show multiple police cars block the vehicle the two were sitting inside. An officer jumps out of his police car and runs over to the Hyundai the couple are in. The Hyundai attempts to pull off. That was when the officer opened fire on the vehicle.

The incident is under investigation. The officer involved in the shooting has reportedly been placed on administrative leave pending the results of the investigation.
