An elderly woman was reportedly killed during a fire inside of an apartment unit in the Wynnefield section of the city early this morning.
A 6 ABC Action News report said the blaze broke out at the Kearsley Square Apartment Building located on the 2100 block of North 49th Street at around 1 a.m. on Sunday morning.
The apartment building us an age-restricted rental community and on the same campus as the Kearsley Rehab & Nursing Center. The fire broke out inside of a top floor rental unit. Firefighters said that by the time they arrived, it was too late to save the victim inside of the apartment.
Firefighters said the fire was put out by the building’s sprinkler system. There was no damage reported to any other parts of the building or units. The victim has not yet been identified.
An investigation is ongoing.
