37-year old, Gualberto Lebron, of Newark New Jersey was found guilty by a jury of murdering his ex-girlfriend and mother of his children, 30-year old, Julia Vega, in May of 2018.
A report from Pix11 News said, after murdering his ex, Lebron put her remains in garbage bags filled with chemicals in an attempt to disintegrate her remains. Lebron was also found guilty of recruiting his 38-year old, brother, Gilberto to help him get rid of Vega’s body.
On Tuesday morning, Lebron was found guilty of 21 out of the 24 counts he was facing related to Vega’s murder. The Assistant Prosecutor thanked the jury after the verdict.
“The jury was attentive and diligent throughout a long and disturbing trial, and returned a verdict that will provide some measure of justice and closure for Julia Vega and her children”, said Assistant District Attorney, Adam Wells.
Lebron is facing a mandatory sentence of life in prison when he goes back to court for sentencing. Gilberto Lebron was convicted of desecrating human remains, hindering prosecution, and conspiracy. He is facing up to 10-years in prison when he goes back to court for sentencing.
A sentencing date for the defendants were not reported.
