Buffalo Bills safety, Damar Hamlin is in critical condition this morning after suffering a reported cardiac arrest during the first quarter of last night’s game between the Cincinnati Bengals and Buffalo Bills.
A report from the Associated Press said the 24-year old second-year safety, suffered a cardiac arrest after making a tackle in the 1st quarter of the game. Hamlin rose to his feet after the tackle, before collapsing to the field. The game was postponed to another date that has yet to be determined.
“Damar Hamlin suffered a cardiac arrest following a hit in our game versus the Bengals. His heartbeat was restored on the field and he was transferred to the UC Medical Center for further testing and treatment. He is currently sedated and listed in critical condition”, The Buffalo Bills said in a statement.
Wide Receiver, Stefon Diggs left the stadium and joined Hamlin at the hospital, shortly after the game was officially postponed to a later date. About 100 Bengals and Bills fans also gathered on a street corner about a block away from the hospital’s emergency room entrance. The combination of Bills & Bengals fans held candles and prayed together as they awaited any news on Hamlin’s condition.
An ambulance was on the field for four minutes after Hamlin collapsed. CPR was reportedly administered on the field as players and coaches from the two teams watched on in horror.
The NFL has not yet said when the pivotal game for playoff positioning will be continued.
