Three people were reportedly shot outside of an elementary school in the Kensington section of the city overnight. A 6 ABC Action News report said the incident happened outside of the Francis Willard Elementary School at around 1 a.m.
First responding police officers at the scene found a 20-year old male lying on the ground in the school’s playground. The report did not say where in the body the victim was shot. He was rushed to the hospital where he was last reported to be in stable condition.
A 20-year old female and 17-year old male were also hit by gunfire. No word on where in the body they were shot. Both victims were taken to a nearby hospital by private vehicle.
“We know that someone was firing a semi-automatic rifle multiple times. We also found semi-automatic handgun rounds, for a total of 30 shots fired,” said Philadelphia Chief Inspector, Scott Small.
Police said one of the bullets went through the school’s door and lodged in a lobby. A car that was parked near where the victims were standing, was reportedly hit by bullets 15 times. 30 shots were fired at the scene altogether.
Police did not give any word on a possible motive for the shooting. No suspects have been named and no arrests have been made at this time.
