46-year old, Barry Croft Jr., a truck driver from Bear Delaware, and 39-year old, Adam Fox, whose last known address was the basement of his mother’s home in Grand Rapids Michigan, were both convicted by a jury this afternoon in a 2020 plot to kidnap Michigan Governor, Gretchen Whitmer. A report from the Associated Press said the pair were also convicted of conspiring to obtain a weapon of mass destruction.
The jury reportedly deliberated for around 8-hours over a two day period before reaching the guilty verdict. This was the second time the pair were tried on these charges. Back in April, a jury failed to reach a unanimous verdict after 5 days of deliberating, leading to this second trial. That trial also saw two other codefendants get acquitted of the charges, while another two flipped and testified against the others.
“You can’t just strap on an AR015 and body armor and go snatch the governor. But that wasn’t the defendants’ ultimate goal. They wanted to set off a second American civil war, a second American Revolution, something that they called the boogaloo. And they wanted to do it for a long time before they settled on Governor Whitmer”, Assistant U.S. Attorney, Nils Kessler told jurors during the trial.
