Four people were injured last night after a shooting in the West Philadelphia section of the city last night. According to a report from 6 ABC Action news, the injured include two women in their 20’s and a 2-year old male child. All three were left in critical condition after the shooting that took place in the area of Creighton Street & Wyalusing Avenue, in West Philly at around 10:30 p.m. on Wednesday night.
First responding officers at the scene reported finding a 26-year old man lying on the pavement when they arrived. The victim was suffering from a gunshot wound to the leg. He was rushed to a nearby hospital where he was last reported to be in critical condition.
As police canvased the area, they came across more victims. Three people who were traveling in an SUV were all hit by gunfire, according to the 6 ABC report.
“We don’t know if somebody was intentionally firing shots at this vehicle or it was hit by stray gunfire, but the vehicle clearly has 10-bullet holes in it”, said Philadelphia Police Chief Inspector, Scott Small.
Investigators believe the 26-year old man was standing next to the vehicle the 2 female victims and child were in, when the shooting began. The driver of the SUV traveled about a block before stopping.
Both of the women who were in their 20’s were rushed to the hospital and last reported to be in critical condition. Female victim #1 was shot in the head. Female victim #2 was shot in the back. Police said there were also two children in the backseat of the SUV. A 6-year old and a 2-year old. The 6-year old was not injured, but the 2-year old was struck by gunfire. The toddlers injuries and condition were not made available to the public at this time. Police believe the female victim who was shot in the head, is the mother of the 2 & 6-year old children.
Police did not give any word on a possible motive for the shooting. No suspects have been named and no arrests have been made at this time.
