Two men were reportedly left dead after a shootout in the South Philly section of the city in the early morning hours today. A report from 6 ABC Action News said, three men are currently in police custody in connection to the shooting that happened at around 3:15 a.m. in the area of 8th & Wolf Streets in South Philly.

“We believe it’s definitely some sort of shootout because we found 35 spent shell casings from semi-automatic weapons”, said Philadelphia Police Chief Inspector, Scott Small.
Officers working routine patrol nearby were on the scene of the shooting shortly after hearing the gunshots, according to the report. The officers reported discovering two un responsive victims at the scene, both believed to be in their 20’s. A gun was found lying next to each of the deceased victims.
One of the victims was pronounced dead at the scene. He had been shot multiple times in the chest. The second victim was rushed to the hospital where he was pronounced dead shortly after arriving. His injuries were a single gunshot wound to the shoulder.
Investigators said they found shell casings at four different locations around 8th & Wolf Streets. Police said they trailed one car seen leaving the scene of the shooting, for about a mile before they pulled the vehicle over at 3rd Street & Oregon Avenue. The three occupants of the vehicle were taken into custody and questioned. They are considered “persons of interest” at this time. Police did not release any word on a possible motive for the shootout.
The investigation is still ongoing.
