A 16-year old was reportedly shot and killed while leaving a corner store, as a hail of over 60 rounds were fired on the block late this morning. A 6 ABC Action News report said the shooting happened at Diamond & Newkirk Streets in the Strawberry Mansion section of the city, at around 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday morning.

Numerous calls were made to 9-1-1 about a shooting taking place in the area, according to the 6 Action News report. First responding officers at the scene reported finding a 16-year old unconscious on the sidewalk. He’d reportedly been shot multiple times. The teen was rushed to the hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival. Police said the teen was on his way home from the corner store with a friend, when the shooting began.
“63-shots, that’s a lot of shots. It appears this may have been some sort of shootout just based on where the ballistic evidence is located but we are not certain at this time”, said Philadelphia Police Inspector, Scott Small.
Police say they did not know of a possible motive for the shooting. No suspects have been named and no arrests have been made at this time.
