20-year old, Azsia Johnson, of Staten Island, N.Y., was killed when she was shot in the head while pushing a baby stroller, with her 3-month old baby inside, in the Upper East Side of Manhattan last night. According to CBS News, the baby was not injured in the seemingly unprovoked ambush attack, that killed the young mother in the presence of her young child.
The suspect reportedly fired a single shot into the woman’s head at “very close range” and then fled on foot. Johnson was rushed to the hospital where she died about an hour after arriving, according to CBS.
“When a woman is pushing a baby carriage down the block, and is shot at point-blank range, it shows just how this national problem is impacting families. It doesn’t matter if you are on the Upper East Side, or East New York, Brooklyn. The oversaturation of guns endangers people”, Said New York Mayor, Eric Adams, at a news conference on Thursday afternoon.
Police did not give any information on a possible motive. no suspects have been named and no arrests have been made at this time.
