OFF-DUTY PHILADELPHIA POLICE OFFICER CARJACKED

An off-duty police officer was reportedly carjacked at gunpoint in Southwest Philadelphia early this morning. According to a 6 ABC Action News report, the incident happened at 56th & Pentridge streets, shortly after midnight on Friday morning.

The off-duty officer was reportedly parking his 2020 Silver Toyota Highlander on the block, when he was approached by a man with a gun. The armed man reportedly reached into the officer’s pockets and took his keys. As the suspect fled in his vehicle, the officer fired 7 shots at the car. The officer struck the driver’s side of the car multiple times.

Police said they are not sure if the suspect was hit by the gunfire. The suspect is not believed to have fired his weapon during the incident. The officer’s vehicle was recover on the 5900 block of Delancey Street in West Philadelphia at around 5 a.m. The Toyota was set on fire. A check on the license plate confirmed it was the officer’s vehicle that was found.

The suspect in the jacking reportedly got away. No arrests have been made at this time.
