22-year old, Alazhia Wilson, was sentenced to 6-years in prison on Friday for fatally stabbing a mother of three in Wilmington, Delaware. According to a report from Delaware Online, the stabbing happened shortly before midnight on October 29th, 2020, when 24-year old Tierra herring stopped to watch a fight between two women near the stairwell at the Quaker Village Apartments in Wilmington.

Wilson, who was one of the people fighting, stabbed Herring in the chest. Herring died at the hospital later from an injury to the heart. Wilson was arrested a few days after the stabbing as she attempted to rent a car in a friend’s name. Prosecutors also said at some point after the stabbing, Wilson attempted to desecrate a memorial that had been built for, and dedicated to Tierra Herring, the stabbing victim.
Wilson’s original charge was murder. After agreeing to a deal with prosecutors, that included dropping the weapons charge, Wilson ended up pleading guilty to a single count of manslaughter. Prosecutors said that Wilson did not purposely kill Herring, but, her introducing a knife into a fistfight, changed the entire environment.
Herring left behind three children aged 9, 6, and 5 at the time of her death.
