A 39-year old man was reportedly killed when he was hit by a SUV in the Kensington section of the city last night. A report from 6 ABC Action News said, the incident happened on the 100 block of West Lehigh Avenue, near Front Street at around10:30 p.m. on Thursday night.
A witness to the incident said a man was crossing Lehigh Avenue, when he was hit by a Dodge Durango. The Dodge was reportedly driven by an unidentified 27-year old male, according to the report. The impact from the accident caused heavy damage to the SUV.
The victim was taken to Temple University Hospital, where he died a short time later. Police say the 39-year old victim is known to them, and may have been homeless.
The 27-year old driver of the Dodge stopped at the scene and waited for police to arrive. He was questioned by police, but not expected to be charged with any crime, according to police.
“He did not appear to be impaired or intoxicated in any way. So right now this is being handled as a tragic accident”, said Philadelphia Police Chief Inspector, Scott Small.
