MAN FOUND DEAD ON THE SIDEWALK HOURS AFTER NORRISTOWN SHOOTING

Police in Norristown, P.A., said they are investigating, after a man was found on a sidewalk hours after he’d been fatally shot. According to a 6 ABC Action News report, Stephen Bates (no age given), was shot and killed on the 900 block of W Marshal Street late on Monday night (no time given).

Neighbors on the block said Bates was shot and killed sometime late on Monday night, but his body was still at the scene at 11 a.m. on Tuesday morning. Police officers from the Norristown Police Department ( said they responded to the scene on Monday night, but did not find Bates’ body.

“In this instance, where there was a single call for shots fired, several officers did survey the area and spoke to multiple people who gave different locations for the area where the gunshots came from. The officers may not have left their vehicles because there was no activity in the area, and multiple locations were given. The officers surveyed for 28 minutes before leaving to handle other assignments”, said Police Chief Derrick E Wood.

Wood also reportedly went on to say, it is NPD policy to canvass the impacted area on foot, at all times. Wood said an internal investigation is underway.

No suspects have been named in the shooting and no arrests have been made at this time.
