Charles Montgomery Allen (No age given) of South Carolina has been charged with murder, after police say he “fired multiple random rounds at passing vehicles. A report from CNN said, one of those shots hit and killed 8-year old, Quarius Naqua Dunham, who was in the car with his father when he was hit by gunfire from Allen’s gun, according to the report. The incident is reported to have happened on Saturday May 28th, on Old River Road, in Florence, S.C.
First arriving deputies on the scene said, when they arrived at the scene they found two victims inside of a vehicle. Police said they quickly noticed the child was suffering from at least one gunshot wound, and rushed the child to the hospital. The child was pronounced dead shortly after arrival. The father was struck in the leg. His injuries were reported as “non life-threatening”.
Police said the child’s mother was also inside of the vehicle. She was reportedly uninjured. The family is from New Hampshire. They were in South Carolina on vacation, according to the CNN report.
Allen was reportedly located a short time later. He was taken into custody at his home, after a brief struggle, according to police. He was charged with murder, attempted murder, discharging a firearm into an occupied vehicle, and possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime.
Allen is reportedly being held without bail at the Florence County Detention Center.
