26-year old, former high school choir teacher, Olivia Lois Ortiz has been charged with allegedly having an inappropriate relationship with a former student of the high school. According to a report from CBS-Pittsburgh, the investigation into Ortiz’s relationship with the student began when her husband contacted the school’s principal to report the relationship between his wife and the student. The principle gave that information to the local police.

Police reportedly held interviews with the 17-year old student. The student said the relationship with Ortiz started because students considered Ortiz an adult who they could confide in, and also trusted. The student said the relationship eventually turned romantic, and that resulted in sexual activity between the two, according to police.

The student reportedly began coming over to Ortiz’s home after an invite while her husband was away on a trip. The same report said that Ortiz called the student over to her home multiple other times to comfort her, after Ortiz’s husband found out about the relationship.

Officers served a seach warrant at Ortiz’s home on May 5th. They confiscated Ortiz’s cell phone and iPad. Police discovered that the student and teacher had began communicating over Spotify. Over 100 messages were exchanged between the two between May 10th – May 11th, according to the report.

Ortiz turned herself in to police on May 16th and was processed into the Lawrence County Jail. Her bond was set at $150,000. Ortiz’s next court appearance is scheduled for May 25th.
